This document introduces you to using the University's Windows XP
Workstation in the Office of Information Technology (OIT) Computer Labs.
It covers basic concepts and a few more advanced features on the Windows
XP Workstation.

What is a Windows XP Workstation?
Windows XP Workstations can be used to run software stored on the hard drive. They connect to the Internet via a high-speed Ethernet connection.

Note: Access to the OIT Computer Labs at the University is
limited. You must have a valid University ID card to use the labs.
Where Can I Find One?
Where to Go to Use a
Computer lists the hours and room numbers of the workstation labs at
the University.
OIT Computer Labs supporting Windows XP Workstations:
- Computer Space Science building - room 3332 Note: Access to
this lab is not allowed during instructional periods, see the
posted schedule for instructional and lab hours.

What Can I Do on the Windows XP Workstation?
The Windows XP Workstations in the OIT Computer Labs run Microsoft Windows XP.
The application software available on the Windows XP Workstations
includes, but is not limited to, Firefox, Mathematica 6, SPSS 16, Visual
Studio, MATLAB, Office 2007, and Minitab 15.
Logging In
When you approach the Windows XP Workstations, you will see the Welcome
to Windows dialog
box. Simultanously press the CTRL-Alt-Delete keys to bring up the
logon screen. You will need to read and click on the OK
button to agree to the Acceptable Use Policy . Type your
Directory ID at the User Name: field.
Type your Directory ID password at the
Password: field. Click the OK icon to begin using the
workstation.
Help and Information
Help and Support can often be found under the Start menu.
Most software programs also have their own help options under the Help selection.
It is the first place to look for help in any application
you're using.
Connecting to a Host Computer
To connect to a host computer, such as TerpConnect, you will need to use either
Putty for your SSH needs or WinScp for transferring files via
secure FTP.

Finishing Your Work
Log out by clicking on Start and then choosing Log Off.
You will be prompted once more to
Log Off Windows simply click on Log Off to complete the logout process
Warning: Any files saved to the Temp folder
will be deleted once you logout.
