Mail@umd consolidates the e-mail services offered on several
OIT
systems at the University. It offers faster, more reliable service, virus scanning, and a Web-based interface that allows you to view and manage messages without configuring a browser client.
WAM - The WAM (for Workstations At Maryland)
system provides a Unix shell account with full Internet access for any
faculty, staff or student who wishes one. It provides a Unix command shell
environment, programming, and various software packages on all
OIT-supported services.
Glue - The Glue system provides a Unix shell account with full Internet access for any faculty, staff or student who wishes one.
It provides a Unix command shell environment, programming, and various software
packages. Some software licensed by individual departments and
available on the Glue system is only available in certain workstation labs,
on certain servers, or to users in specific groups. See your instructor or
advisor to get any special permissions you may need.

| ARES |
ARES access is automatically granted for anyone who is paid by the University. Faculty
or staff who are paid by grant usually have access to ARES as well. Additionally, many affiliates
are granted access. One logs into ARES using one's Directory ID and password. If you have
questions regarding your Directory ID or password, please contact the OIT Help
Desk directly. |
| University Directory ID |
Each person connected with the University of Maryland in any
way is listed in the University Directory without having to apply for an
"account" in the usual sense. Anyone listed in the directory can get a Directory ID and password, which can be used to authenticate oneself to many on-line systems, including:

Search Page. You can reset your own Directory password by using the Directory Password
